In my experience and from asking my elders, traditional pho should have a clear broth, and that a cloudy broth is an indication of a poorly prepared broth (this is true for most consomme/broth and not just pho). Their reasonings were that a cloudy broth would be the result of overcooked noodle/vegetable/seasoning remnants or improperly strained beef bones. So in that case, I suppose that the clear broth would taste lighter :)

Is there a difference between the clear broth and cloudy broth? A vietnamese friend told me the clear broth is a lighter taste, is that true?
